Vellum’s Personal Assistant Platform is being shut down on November 2nd, 2026.

What happens on November 2nd, 2026?

Vellum is shutting down its Personal Assistant platform on November 2nd, 2026. After that time, any Personal Assistant hosted in Vellum’s cloud will cease to function, you will not be able to log in to www.vellum.ai, and your data will be permanently deleted.

Why is Vellum shutting off its Personal Assistant Platform?

We launched Vellum Personal Assistant earlier this year to bring Personal Intelligence to everyone – especially those that care about security, privacy, and avoiding model lock in.

Since then, the market landscape has changed a lot and competition has grown incredibly fierce. While much of what made Vellum so unique remains true, we unfortunately have not been able to grow our distribution to the point needed to continue this product.

We’re sad to end this journey and thank our community and early adopters for taking a chance on us.

What happens to my assistant?

If your assistant is hosted by Vellum, then it will cease to exist beginning November 2nd, 2026. See tips below if you are interested in “teleporting” your assistant and self-hosting it.

What about my self-hosted assistant?

If you self-hosted your assistant from the get-go and never created a Vellum account, meaning you set it up using your own LLM API Keys, OAuth apps, etc., then your assistant will continue to work indefinitely, even after Vellum’s Personal Assistant Platform has been shut off.

Isn’t Vellum open source?

Yes, Vellum’s personal assistant harness is fully open source and can be self-hosted. Vellum will no longer be actively maintaining this repo or regularly cutting new releases. For those self hosting, our founding engineer will be maintaining a rebranded fork called Cadet, which you can find here.

Vellum also has a closed-source repo for it’s cloud platform, which is what’s being shut off.

How can I self-host my assistant and remove any dependencies on Vellum’s Personal Assistant Platform?

If you fully self-host your assistant and have no dependencies on Vellum’s Personal Assistant Platform, then it’s possible to keep using your assistant beyond November 2nd, 2026. We recently shipped a “Teleport” feature that allows for just this. Note though that this feature isn’t fully battle tested and might not work for every assistant. To give it a try:

  1. Download Vellum’s Mac or Windows desktop app from Download Vellum
  2. From the desktop app, go to Preferences → Settings → General → Teleport and click on the “Move to Local” button.
  3. Follow any instructions and wait for the teleport process to complete.
  4. To ensure your assistant works without any further dependencies on the Vellum platform, you should go to Preferences → Settings → Log Out.
  5. It’s likely that you will need to provide your own LLM API Keys for your assistant to work. You can do so by going to Preferences → Settings → Models & Services → Language Model.

It’s possible that other services that Vellum’s Platform previously provided also need to be replaced with alternatives that you own and control. If issues arise, we recommend asking your assistant to help debug itself and help you set up alternatives.

Can I export my assistant’s data?

Exporting your platform-hosted assistant’s data is a great way to take a local backup of it before November 2nd, 2026. It’s even possible that you could use another AI Assistant product to read that backup and migrate data from Vellum into another product.

To do this, simply prompt your assistant from the desktop app with “Can you create a zip file of all data in your workspace and then transfer it to my desktop?”

What if I’m a paying user?

All paying customers of Vellum that are still on an active subscription on November 2nd will have their subscription automatically cancelled on that day. You will receive a prorated refund for any duration remaining in your billing period at that time.
